A very rare mid 18th century tooled leather cartridge magazine containing five cartridges for a breach loading sporting rifle. The leather cartridge case manufactured in the form of a satchel, the outside finely tooled and the flap opening to reveal five individual leather holsters each containing a flintlock breach loading cartridge. The satchel has a short adjustable leather strap and two turned ivory toggles possibly to enable the satchel to be fixed to a saddle or to attache a longer more robust shoulder strap.
